Watch Nelson Mandela at the 2003 World Summer Games

Former South Africa President Nelson Mandela, who passed in 2013, said Special Olympics athletes are proof of "our capacity to overcome hardships and obstacles." He was introduced at the 2003 World Summer Games Opening Ceremony in Ireland by U-2's Bono.
