Special Olympics South Africa has been recognised as one of the first Healthy Communities worldwide, for the strength of its health program to people with intellectual disabilities throughout the country.
A Healthy Community is a location officially by recognized by Special Olympics for efforts in creating year-round access to quality health care.
At Special Olympics South Africa, we focus on the importance of health education, exercise and a healthy lifestyle through initiatives such as Family Health Forums, ‘Healthy Heroes’ training, peer-to-peer training, Healthy Athlete screenings, coach training, first aid training, Young Athletes as well as workshops at schools and universities.
We’ve created partnerships with key community-based organisations who are able to provide ongoing support to our athletes.
