Special Olympics Albania joined the European Week of Sport for the first time with a fun day held in the center of Tirana on 30 September 2017.
In one of the most lively pedestrian areas in the city, 32 children with and without intellectual disabilities between the ages of 7 and 11 and wearing “#Be Active” T-shirts took part while parents and shoppers watched them happily interact with each other and their coaches. The event was supported by the EU Information Network and the Mayor of Tirana Mr. Erion Veliaj.
The municipality provided the pedestrian area free of charge. The local sports-focused NGO “Smart” provided coaches, table tennis tables, basketball hoops, and mini goal posts for the children while promoting the European Week's focus on the benefits of sport and physical activity.
