The fourth and final webinar of the 2022 Coach Webinar Series presented by Gallagher has concluded! We would like to thank all of the presenters and athlete leaders who joined us, as well as the coaches and volunteers from around the world who tuned in to hear some amazing tips from leaders in the coaching and fitness world!
This week, we were joined by Gilmour Borg, a health messenger from Special Olympics Malta, Monica Forquer, fitness advisor for Special Olympics and founder Active Health LLC, as well as Special Olympics British Columbia coach and advocate Tom Norton. This week’s webinar was all about health and fitness, and some best practices in making sure that coaches are doing everything they can to get the most out of their athletes on and off the field.
Monica began the webinar speaking about the importance of integrating health through sport. Health and fitness are vital elements of a well rounded and competitive athlete. Health and fitness aren’t just elements of training and competition that must be completed, they can help athletes reach new goals and heights that they never thought possible. Monica also spoke about the importance of involving the athlete in the inclusion of health and fitness, helping them understand the importance of the work, and making sure they have a say in what their goals are, understanding the process and working together towards a common goal.
“To be a great athlete, you need to be a healthy athlete!”
Tom presented about building confidence and practicing effectively in the role of competitions. Coaching an athlete isn’t just about making sure they are the right fit on the field, Tom emphasized, its about building the confidence on and off the field, as well as ensuring that athletes play a critical role in helping themselves become the best they can be.
“Great coaches fuel great athletes.”
Thank you again to all who participated in this year’s Coach Webinar Series presented by Gallagher. It was a great success, and we cannot wait to see you all again next year!
