As the excitement around Berlin 2023 World Games builds, we are pleased to announce that viewers around the world can look forward to the biggest and best broadcast coverage in our history.
Thanks to our Global Presenting Sponsor of Special Olympics Unified Sports and Global Broadcast Partner for the 2023 Special Olympics World Games ESPN, our Host Broadcaster in Berlin and wide-ranging support from international media, audiences can enjoy over 220 hours of competition throughout the Games, our spectacular Opening Ceremony on 17 June and a wealth of auxiliary programming including a “Best Of” recap show.
In the US, viewers will be treated to extensive coverage including:
- 3 hours of Opening Ceremony coverage on ABC’s free-to-air network, beginning at 3p ET on 17 June.
- For the first time, hundreds of hours of competition will be shown on industry-leading streaming service ESPN+, with coverage also available on their digital network ESPN3 (check availability through affiliated providers here).
- Good Morning America will broadcast live from Brandenburg Gate on June 16th, hosted by Robin Roberts with special guests joining on set.
- Integrated content with ESPN’s regular programming and studio shows (e.g. Sportscenter).
International viewers can also enjoy World Games coverage across many regions. Check your local listings with your content provider for the most up-to-date information.
13 sports will be produced live and offered as a world feed. Editorial summaries will be produced of each of the other 13 sports. In addition, there will be daily highlight formats in different lengths as well as reports from the cultural events and festivities.
In Germany, 11 media partners have also formed an alliance to share and distribute content in their region. In addition, EBU/Eurovison Sport has reached a multilateral agreement for selected EBU Members to show coverage of the 2023 Games. Other partnerships include digital sports streaming service DAZN, who will distribute content across 200+ territories, and with global sports video production and distribution agency Story10.
The unifying goal is to create more awareness for people with intellectual disabilities.
Our sincerest thanks to everyone for capturing and distributing the joy of our athletes and showcasing the Special Olympics movement to the world. Proof, once again, that we are truly #UnbeatableTogether. Enjoy watching our World Games!
