Special Olympics Florida Summer Games Saw New Innovation

Bocce courts featuring a revolutionary inflatable design were centre stage at the USA’s largest Special Olympics state games in Florida over the weekend.

More than 5,000 athletes, coaches, volunteers and family members took part in the Special Olympics Florida State Summer Games, hosted at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Walt Disney World, Orlando.

Special Olympics Florida Director of Sport and Programs Meghan McLean said the 10 courts used for the Games’ bocce competition on 18 and 19 May were set up in just over an hour. This compared to nearly five hours to set up the older-style courts made of PVC piping used in previous years.
