Challenging Expectations, One Challenge at a Time—You Can, Too!!

WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre and Special Olympics athlete Alex Hannah looking into camera.

Around the world, there's a misperception that people with intellectual disabilities can’t do what others can. This must stop. Starting Monday, 15 March, 2021 Special Olympics is reaching out to wide new audiences—challenging everyone to see our athletes, and their talents, in a different way. In the #ChallengeAccepted campaign, we aim to break negative expectations ... one challenge at a time.

First up: a fun, Jump-Rope Challenge! To kick things off, Special Olympics athlete Alex Hannah will jump rope for 30 seconds—(harder than it looks!)—and then challenge WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre to match it. Then they challenge us all to do the same—and post on Drew’s Instagram (@dmcintyrewwe) and Special Olympics’ Instagram (@specialolympics), using #ChallengeAccepted. Note: The challenges will also be posted on Facebook and Twitter.

You can join, too—and challenge people to rethink what they believe about ability!! Respond by filming yourself jumping rope, and posting it to your page to challenge YOUR followers. The challenge will run for a few weeks, but please try to post between 15 – 26 March, so that we can build momentum. Plus: it's fun! More info at this link!
