The White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health on September 28, 2022, announced a national strategy to end hunger, reduce diet-related diseases by improving healthy eating and physical activity, and eliminate disparities surrounding them by 2030.
In collaboration with the White House Conference on Hunger and Nutrition, Special Olympics will launch a new multi-part initiative to expand fitness, nutrition counseling, health coaching, and SNAP-Ed benefits for people with intellectual disabilities. By 2030, Special Olympics will train 5,000 fitness professionals on inclusive fitness methods while providing inclusive fitness curricula to at least 1,500 physical education, physical therapy, and public health trainees. And in 2023, Special Olympics will: invest in research to demonstrate the utility and cost-effectiveness of nutritional assessment tools for people with intellectual disabilities; and develop and disseminate two best practice toolkits on inclusive health coaching and Snap-Ed models to promote evidence-based nutrition education and obesity prevention interventions for people with intellectual disabilities.
Together, we can make a difference.
