Latvia recently held its first ever Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics in Riga!
Organised by the Riga Municipal Police, the event was attended by around 40 Special Olympics Latvia athletes and 80 police officers, fire fighters and border guards from Riga and across Latvia, as well as international colleagues from Lithuania, Estonia and Ireland. The torch run garnered national media attention with LETR Latvia Coordinator Deins Millers and LETR Europe Coordinator Gary Gordon being interviewed live on the national morning news!
The international visitors also had the opportunity to exchange skills during a patrol with Riga’s municipal police officers and at an LETR Baltics workshop.
Reflecting on this very special day, Deins Millers noted, “This was amazing experience where everybody – the wonderful Special Olympics athletes, police officers from Latvia and beyond and the whole community – felt the spirit of Special Olympics and loved every second of it!”
