The following is an excerpt of Authority Magazine article titled Social Impact Heroes: Why & How Charles Nyambe of Special Olympics International Is Helping To Change Our World.

So much time is invested by coaches in preparing our athletes to beat their personal bests, in the same way as international athletes compete in the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Games. It is for this reason that I was attracted to Special Olympics. It was because an elite coach who was assigned to serve Special Olympics athletes in Namibia in 1998 abandoned them. Perhaps it was because they were not as fast, or perhaps because they would not expose the coach as an “elite” coach for better opportunities. I was disturbed by this and I decided to fill the gap against this injustice.
