Special Olympics Leadership Discusses Health Disparities on SiriusXM

During the last weekend of October 2019, Mary Davis, CEO of Special Olympics and Dr. Alicia Bazzano, Special Olympics Chief Health Officer joined Torin Ellis, host of Career Mix on SiriusXM’s Urban View channel.

They explored the intersection of diversity issues and Special Olympics’ work around inclusion, and shed a light on the serious health disparities that people with intellectual disabilities face. For example, 58% of Special Olympics athletes have problems with their gait, 37% have tooth decay that has been untreated and 23% have never had an eye exam.
