In Kosovo, Special Olympics and UNICEF brought a successful joint Young Athletes project to a close by holding a roundtable to review the seven months of activities.
Held in December 2017 in Pristina, the meeting brought together UNICEF officials, Special Olympics Kosovo staff, teachers, families, coaches and children to discuss project results. In total 90 children between 5 and 12 years old in Pristina, Fushe Kosova and Mitrovica including those from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities took part in 32 inclusive sports and play activities.
Older school children and parents served as volunteers.
“We invested in children to develop life skills so they will have chance to realize who they are and the positive role they can have when they become adults. The 2018 priority is to strengthen cooperation between families/caregivers, schools and communities to continue supporting children’s learning."
James Mugaju, Deputy Head of UNICEF Office in Pristina
