Youth leaders Inge, aged 20 years, and Heidi, aged 25 years, have worked with Special Olympics Estonia and the Estonian Lacrosse Federation to organise the country's first ever Youth Unified Lacrosse event!
The event, which took place in mid November, gathered together 50 young people with and without intellectual disabilities to practice lacrosse in Kristiine Sports Hall in Tallin. The aim was to engage more youth in Unified Sports, and it follows a Unified Floorball event which took place in earlier this autumn. Both activities are part of the Special Olympics Estonia Youth Innovation Grant project.
Inge, a Special Olympics swimmer as well as an athlete and youth leader, spoke about why she and her sister developed their project: “People ask me why people with intellectual disabilities do sports? I like to educate them and tell about Special Olympics”.
