Flag Football

It’s a cold and windy weekend in the quiet college town of Stillwater, Oklahoma, but despite it being winter break for Oklahoma State University, you can hear the cheers of students.

My time at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games was a magical and impactful experience. My role as a Sargent Shriver International Global Messenger (SSIGM) was as an honored guest. During my time at USA Games in Orlando, Florida, I had an audible part in the Opening Ceremony, co-led an introduction to Unified Leadership training, and had fun at Disney’s Animal and Magic Kingdoms, just to name a few of my most memorable USA Games moments.

Playing a variety of positions, the 21-year-old says he enjoys wide receiver the most, but he also shines on the defensive side of the ball.

For most, Special Olympics flag football is an opportunity for athletes and Unified partners to come together and take their skills to the gridiron for friendly competition.

To the sports world and beyond, it’s the most iconic venue in sports. But to a select few, there is another venue that will soon hold significant importance.

The Chicago Bears hosted 180 Special Olympics athletes from 12 Special Olympics Illinois teams in a flag football tournament held in Halas Hall.
