Adam Hammer

2023 Global Athlete Congress Participant

Adam Hammer is an athlete from Special Olympics Hungary in the Europe Eurasia Region. Adam participates in basketball and athletics. He has been involved in Special Olympics since 2007.

Adam’s favorite parts about Special Olympics are the opportunity to do sports, the outstanding access to networking, socializing, and the company.

Adam is excited for the congress in Berlin. He is looking forward to some team building programs to get to know other athlete leaders better, and if there is time some site seeing and watching sporting events.

Adam is employed at Nivo-vas Ltd which is a bathtub producer. When Adam isn’t working or competing, he enjoys biking and photography.

Adam says that since becoming a Special Olympics athlete in 2007 he became an athlete leader step-by-step. At first, he was a substitute leader, but he learned a lot and promoted information he received to fellow Hungarian athletes, coaches, program leaders, and board members.

Project Description

Adam’s grant plan is to train 10 new athlete leaders from Special Olympics Hungary and create a network of athlete leaders with them. The project focuses on the members of the athletes and youth groups in Hungary. There will be a nine-month series of programs consisting of workgroups. The workgroups will be tasked with representing athletes in Special Olympics at the local and national level, as well as in their relations towards other segments of society. In addition to athletes with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) some people without ID will participate as mentors. Participants’ intra and interpersonal competences will be developed, communication strategies will be taught and leadership skills will be enhanced. The material will be based on the Special Olympics International athlete leader curriculum.
