Won Jae Choi

2023 Global Athlete Congress Participant

Won Jae Choi is an athlete from Special Olympics Korea in the East Asia Region. Won Jae participates in the Special Olympics Korea (SOK) EWHA volleyball club with students from EWHA Womens University. He has been involved in Special Olympics since 2018 when he participated in integrated volleyball at the 2018 SOK International Unified Sports Games. In 2019 Won Jae joined the Youth Innovation program. He has been serving as the chairman of the SOK Athlete Leadership Council and the Special Olympics East Asia Athlete Leadership Council since 2020.

Won Jae’s favorite part about Special Olympics is that it gives opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to participate.

Won Jae is excited for the congress in Berlin. He is looking forward to finding out what activities he will do and how he can implement the activities in South Korea.

Won Jae is employed as a barista and youth activist at a workplace for slow learners. When Won Jae isn’t working or competing, he enjoys playing esports, watching animated cartoons, and attending a hobby club.

Won Jae says that being an athlete leader means that he can have another opportunity to show and prove himself.

Project Description

Won Jae’s grant plan is to help Special Olympics Korea staff train the next National Athlete Input Council (NAIC) members to be leaders. He will be presenting what he has done in the last 2 years as an athlete leader to motivate new NAIC members. Drawing on the training and experience of the present leaders, the NAIC will have a smooth transition to new leadership.
